The reverse of this photo is inscribed "For Bertha. My own work." It is undated, but Allan is obviously not enjoying the best of health, as he is reclining in a type of invalid's chair.It was suggested by my great uncle, Gordon Oakley, that Allan's chess opponent might be his brother, Robert Hughan, the convict, but I am not convinced!
