Aline Hughan's first cousin Olive Jessie Bishop( daughter of Allan Hughan's younger sister, Bertha)kept a birthday book, which was given to her for her birthday by cousins Cyril and May St. John Clarke in 1883. She filled in some birthdays herself, but generally the person whose birthday it was wrote their own signature in the relevant space and page. This shows Aline's signature on the page reserved for September 24th birthdays.There was no entry for Minnie Hughan in any of the several birthday books that I have- this seems to suggest that she did in fact lose touch with her Australian cousins over the years, while Aline still had some contact with her extended family.
